2015 is already turning out to be a banner year for the unstoppable Multi-Platinum, Grammy Nominated band Smash Mouth. In late 2014, Universal released Smash Mouth’s “ICON Series” CD.“Anyone who’s never heard Smash Mouth play live is gonna be totally blown away” confirms lead singer Steve Harwell. The album is to be released on the Sony label as part of their “Alt Vault” series. A look back to Smash Mouth’s formative years shows us a band determined to make an impact from the get go. Smash Mouth’s major-label debut “Fush Yu Mang” goes more than DOUBLE PLATINUM and sets the table for what most consider their masterpiece, the brilliant follow-up album “Astrolounge”. Boasting three top-ten hits (“All-Star,” “Then the Morning Comes,” and “Can’t Get Enough Of You Baby,”) sales for “Astrolounge” are nearly double those for their debut, approaching QUADRUPLE PLATINUM status.Formed in late 1994, the band immediately begins recording demos and showcasing in both San Jose and Hollywood CA. Smash Mouth’s third eponymous Interscope release features the ecstatic first single “Pacific Coast Party” and the smash hit “I’m a Believer”.Question: What’s so great about Smash Mouth in 2015 compared to past years? Two years ago, founding members Steve Harwell and Paul De Lisle (along with 17-year, tenured keyboardist Mike Klooster) welcomed guitarist Sean Hurwitz and drummer Jason Sutter into the group. Steve Harwell, lead singer of the rock band Smash Mouth, went on an absolute tirade during a show in Fort Collins, Colo., when a member of the audience threw bread at him.Smash Mouth lead singer Steve Harwell hears the band’s songs everywhere he goes — in the bathroom, at beaches, downtown Disney, The Home Depot.“Sometimes I’ll hear it (the band’s music) three or four times a day,” he said.“I’ll be at a Target, be at Home Depot, be at Safeway and a sporting event. You’re in a grocery store or something and you think people might be glancing your way, but as soon as ‘All Star’ comes on, everyone is looking at you.”But Harwell, 48, wouldn’t trade the ride for anything.

In recent years, Smash Mouth has focused on touring and entertaining troops in places like Japan, Guam, Guantanamo Bay, Afganistan, and Iraq. What these two A-List, virtuoso players have brought to the team speaks for itself: just take a listen to the Live album…

They were Greg Camp and Paul De Lisle, who ended up being Smash Mouth’s guitar and bass players, respectively.“I would go out and see them play in their cover bands on the weekends, I thought, ‘I want to form a band with those guys,’” he said.

“I knew early on, even when I was doing the hip-hop thing, that I wanted to recruit those guys and do something, and I did.”In 1994, the San Diego-based band formed, with Kevin Coleman on drums.

He told his manager he wanted to start an alternative-rock band.“So we switched gears,” he said.

Harwell said he had his eye on a couple of guys who were in a cover band, who happened to be managed by his manager.PHOTOS: Hollywood's Most Memorable Mugshots DON'T BE SCARED, you didn't just time travel back to 2001, and the original movie still came out over 14 years ago.
